Course Overview

This course aims to meet the mandatory minimum requirements for knowledge, understanding, proficiency and certification for Competences for ratings as Able Seafarer Deck in accordance with STCW Code Table A-II/5. This syllabus covers the requirements to meet the minimum standard of competence in navigational watch at the support level as stated in the STCW Code Section A-II/5. After completion of the course, the trainee will be able to:

  • Contribute to safe navigational watch
  • Contribute to berthing, anchoring and other mooring operations
  • Contributing to handling of cargo and stores
  • Contributing to handling of cargo and stores (Additional Tasks for Tankers)
  • Contribute to the safe operation of deck equipment and machinery
  • Apply occupational health and safety precautions
  • Apply precautions and contribute to prevent of pollution of the marine environment
  • Operate the survival craft and rescue boats
  • Contribute to shipboard maintenance and repair
  • Steering the ship and also comply helm order in English language
  • Keep a proper look-out by sight and hearing
  • Contribute to monitoring and controlling a safe watch
  • Contribute to monitoring and controlling a safe watch
  • Operate emergency equipment and apply emergency procedures
  • Operate emergency equipment and apply emergency procedures
  • Ability to display flag signal as advised by OOW
  • Practical training with Simulator (Steering & Lookout)
  • Supporting duties when berthing or unberthing
  • Table top demonstration of berthing and unberthingĀ  operations
