Course Overview

Aims and Objectives This course aims to meet the mandatory minimum requirements for knowledge, understanding and proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats for Seafarer in accordance with STCW Code Table A-VI/2-2. To impart knowledge to the participants of what is necessary for attending and piloting a Fast Rescue Boat in a safe manner. To give the trainees basic knowledge and skills qualifying them to take command of a Fast Rescue Boat during and after deployment. Trainees who successfully complete this course shall be able to demonstrate the required minimum standard of competence set out in Table A-VI/2-2 of STCW Code, 2010 Manila amendment for seafarers who may be designated to launch and take charge of a fast rescue boat in emergency situations. Course Contents By the end of the course participants will be able to

  • Take the charge of the fast rescue boat (FRB) during and after launch
  • Understand the construction and outfit of FRBs and individual items of their equipment
  • Know the particular characteristics and facilities of FRBs
  • Understand safety precautions during launch and recovery of an FRB
  • Know the procedures for righting a capsized FRB
  • Be able to handle FRB in prevailing and adverse weather and sea conditions
  • Understand navigational and safety equipment available in FRB
  • Search patterns and environment factors affecting their execution
  • Assessment of the readiness of FRBs and related equipment for immediate use
  • Knowledge of maintenance, emergency repair, normal inflation and deflation of buoyancy compartment of inflated FRBs
  • Operate an FRB engine, including methods of starting and operating an FRB engine and its accessories.
