Course Overview

Aims and Objectives: In particular, the student shall be able to:

  • Describe how to effectively take and hand over a watch effectively
  • Describe the responsibilities of a watch keeper
  • Describe how to maintain safe engineering watch
  • Demonstrate the operation of main & auxiliary machinery and associated control system
  • Demonstrate the appropriate use of hand tools, machine tools and measuring instruments for fabrication and repair on board.
  • Perform typical maintenance and repair of shipboard machinery and equipment.
  • Perform typical fault detection and necessary measures to prevent damage
  • Describe and perform operation of fuel, lubrication, ballast and other pumping and associated systems.
  • Describe the basic configuration and operation principle of electrical, electronic and control equipment.
