Course Overview

Aims and Objectives: This course is to meet STCW 2010, Regulation III/6, and the mandatory minimum requirements for certification of Examination Course of electro-technical officer for the function: Electrical, Electronic and Control Engineering at the Operation Level. It covers the requirements of the 2010 STCW Convention Manila Amendments Chapter III, Section A III/6 and Table A – III/6. After completion of the course the students will gain the background knowledge and practical work to support:

Function 1: Electrical, Electronic and control engineering at the operational level

Function 2: Maintenance and Repair at the Operational Level

Function 3: Controlling the operation of the Ship and Care for Person on Board at the Operational Level

Course Contents

Function 1: Electrical, Electronic and control engineering at the operational level

  • Monitor the operation of electrical, electronic and control systems
  • Monitor the operation of automatic control systems of propulsion and auxiliary machinery
  • Operate generators and distribution systems
  • Operate and maintain power systems in excess of1 ,000 volts
  • Use English in written and oral form
  • Operate computers and computer networks on ships
  • Use Internal communication systems

Function 2: Maintenance and Repair at the Operational Level

  • Maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic equipment
  • Maintenance and repair of automation and control systems of main and propulsion and auxiliary machinery
  • Maintenance and repair of bridge navigation equipment and ship communication system
  • Maintenance and repair of electrical, electronic and control systems of deck machinery and cargo-handling equipment
  • Maintenance and repair of control and safety systems of Hotel equipment

Function 3: Controlling the operation of the Ship and Care for Person on Board at the Operational Level

  • Ensure compliance with pollution prevention regulations
  • Prevent control and fight fire on board
  • Operate life saving appliance
  • Apply medical first aid on board ship
  • Application of leadership and team working skills
